“EATING TO LIVE VS LIVING TO EAT”
Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension, High Cholesterol and other chronic diseases can be controlled by modifying/changing our lifestyle. The lifestyle changes for stress reduction, healthy diet choices and exercise have been found by researchers to have an almost immediate positive effect on most common diseases. Blood pressure and blood sugar as well as the “bad” cholesterol have been decreased in some cases, in less than a month. The three diets listed below are based on vegetable/fruit and water intake.
THE DANIEL DIET: based on the diet found in the book of Daniel
DASH DIET: the US government sponsored diet plan
LOW CARBOHYDRATE (between 45 to 60 gram/meal) DIET
Of course, any change in eating plan must be endorsed by your primary health care provider
SPIRITUALITY AND MENTAL HEALTH
Spirituality has been referred to as the” forgotten dimension of mental health care.” The physical and mental illnesses come with stress, anxiety, pain and suffering. The healing process should begin from within via love, forgiveness, hope and trust in GOD. Despite setbacks one can bolster the feeling of optimism/hope and knowing that there is purpose and meaning and control over their life via our savior, Jesus Christ. Research has found that: patients with a spiritual foundation become stable faster, stick with their treatment protocols, display a desire to restore personal relationships and harness their inner strength to continue healing both physically and mentally..

HEALTH AND SPIRITUALITY
May is BREAST CANCER AWARENEESS month. We all know someone with this devastating disease. There are many efforts in research, prevention, treatment protocols to cure, control and to combat breast cancer. Until more recent years, spirituality was not given a high priority. Recent studies have revealed that a strong faith foundation along with prayer improved a person’s health, attitude, relationships and lives. Spirituality has been shown to reduce depression, improve blood pressure, and boost the immune system.
Studies show that faith promotes good health and fight disease by providing the support network found in our church families/communities.
Faith works by improving coping skills through prayer and a basic belief that all things and situations have a purpose. Faith, Hope and Charity fight feelings of helplessness, and restores meaning and order to life situations.
